The award offers the awardee a fantastic opportunity to communicate this research via a large lecture at this year's SICB conference.
IB Undergraduate Wins University Medal

Yosemite documentary features Berkeley sequoia researchers
Submitted by rhkayen on Mon, 04/03/2017 - 13:25BS Nature documentary that first aired March 29 and is now available for streaming explores the impact of climate change on Yosemite National Park, and features two UC Berkeley biologists who climb to the tops of giant sequoias to understand what the future holds for these ancient trees.
Ackerly Elected to Ecological Society of America
Submitted by khansen on Tue, 02/07/2017 - 13:28Professor David Ackerly has been elected a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America. The ESA cited his contributions "for pioneering the integration of phylogenetic methods into ecology to generate new understanding of the evolutionary processes that contribute to the ecological function and community assembly of plants." Ackerly joins Professor Mary Power, who was elected as a Fellow and also served as President of ESA in 2009-2010.

Due to their head start program the UW empowered students like Jesus Martinez-Gomez to do original science and research as undergraduates.
