Student Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this major will be able to:

  1. Describe the principles of evolution and genetics that underlie all biology.
  2. Demonstrate a broad and integrated understanding of interactions between species and their environments: including species origins, behavior, and diversity, including how to characterize and protect this diversity.
  3. Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the relationships between structure and function in organismal (including human) health and physiology.
  4. Describe the basic principles of scientific inquiry and the importance of scientific study in integrative biology.
  5. Engage in the process of data collection, statistical analysis, and graphing including basic principles of experimental and sampling design.
  6. Critically evaluate data, develop hypotheses, and interpret biological experiments.
  7. Effectively communicate through written and/or oral presentation of scientific results.
