The IB and MCB Departments have partnered up to support undergrads and their love for the biosciences.
More than 200 students attended this exciting networking event held on Jan 21st from 2-5pm in the Li Ka Shing Lobbies. Even more incredible? That this event was made BY students (both IB and MCB) FOR students. A whopping 26 clubs and organizations dedicated their time and efforts to the student community.
Monica Albe, MCB Staff (but a true lover of IB as well!), coordinated this event with the help of student organizers Shana Singh (IB), Courtney Sarkin (MCB), Lena Horvath (MCB), and Megha Majumder (Public Health).
Student attendees exchanged loads of information on various research and volunteer opportunities, DeCal classes, clubs, and career options. Experts and researchers from campus resources were also on hand. Students also got some good use out of the photo booth posing with “Biology” themed props, and enjoyed some complimentary snacks!
This event was part of an ongoing effort by the Departments of IB and MCB to create more connections and opportunities for their communities here at Cal. This effort is enabled in part by an Innovation Grant from the Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Dean of Biological Sciences.
Special thanks to IB and MCB Student Services, Professor Dirk Hockemeyer and Roberto Zoncu (and the Zoncu Lab) for their help with this event! ...And of course, a BIG thank you to everyone who participated!
