Faculty Accolades

Koehl_MimiProfessor of the Graduate School Mimi Koehl was chosen as a COSMOS Distinguished Lecturer by the University of California, Davis, as well as a plenary lecturer for the Society for Applied Mathematics Conference on the Life Sciences.

Marshall_CharlesProfessor Charles Marshall was honored with the Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentorship of GSIs by the University of California, Berkeley.

Nielson_RasmusProfessor Rasmus Nielson received the Villum Kann Rasmussen Annual Award, the largest Danish research award for technical and scientific research.

Sudamant_PeterAssistant Professor Peter Sudmant was awarded the Glenn Foundation Junior Faculty Grant to support early career investigators, and the ORU Seed Fund Proposal to inspire undergraduate research from the field to the museum with next-generation DNA sequencing.
Wake_DavidProfessor Emeritus David Wake was interviewed for the UCBEA Legacy Project, an effort dedicated to telling the stories of faculty with major accomplishments and contributions to the campus. Whiteman_NoahAssociate Professor Noah Whiteman is a recipient of a 2020 Guggenheim Fellowship for his work entitled “Most Delicious Poison: How Plant Toxins Changed the World.”

Graduate Student Accolades


Mason Kamalani Chock (Koskella Lab) is a recipient of a grant from the East Bay Chapter of the California Native Plant Society, supporting research contributing to the conservation of native California plants.


Ehrenberg_AlexanderAlexander Ehrenberg (Kaufer Lab) was appointed scientific editor for the Alzheimer’s Association’s academic journal, Alzheimer’s and Dementia. His specific assignments will focus on engaging the public and policy makers with original research in the field.


Ekwealor_JennaJenna Ekwealor (Mishler Lab) received the California Native Plant Society East Bay Myrtle Wolf Student Research Grant, dedicated to researching aspects of California native plants.


Pelaez_JulianneJulianne Peláez (Whiteman Lab) received a Rosemary Grant Advanced Award from the Society for the Study of Evolution, the Sigma Xi Grants in Aid of Research Award, and the 2020-2021 STEM Chateaubriand Fellowship.


Congratulations to the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor (OGSI) Award recipients who are honored for their outstanding work in the teaching of undergraduates!
