Integrative Biology 123 Exercise and Environmental Physiology
Description: Discussion of how chemical energy is captured within cells and how potential chemical energy is converted to muscular work. Energetics, direct and indirect calorimetry, pathways of carbon flow in exercise, ventilation, circulation, skeletal muscle fiber types. Practical examples include: high altitude performance, exercise in the heat and cold, exercise and CHD and CMD, sex difference in performance, ergogenic aids, the sources of fatigue.
