Diplomas

The ceremonial scroll you receive at Commencement is not a diploma, since degrees take several months to process. Diplomas are available approximately 4-5 months after each graduation date.

Picking up Your Diploma

  • Diplomas can be picked up from the Diploma Office in 120 Sproul Hall at no charge.
  • You must have a photo ID.
  • To have someone else pick up your diploma, the person must have an authorization letter from you, and a photo ID.

Diplomas by Mail

  • Logon to: https://telebears.berkeley.edu and arrange UPS delivery to a reliable address (one that will be in effect about four months after graduation). If you do not supply an address on TeleBears, your diploma will be mailed to the permanent address on record with Bear Facts. Through this method, fees are assessed to CARS account, which may be preferable to later payment by check or credit card.
  • After completing your last semester you may complete the Diploma Request Form available at the Registrar's Diploma website and follow the instructions.
  • If you are unable to download the form, you can request your diploma by letter. The letter should include your name, birthdate, Social Security number, Student ID, degree and date it was awarded, and the address to which you want the diploma sent.
  • Mailing charges are US $12.00 within the United States or US $32.00 outside the United States. A check, payable to the UC Regents, must be included with your mailed request.
  • Diplomas are sent by UPS.
  • Someone must be present at delivery to sign for the diploma.
  • Send your request to:
    • Office of the Registrar, Attention: Diplomas, 120 Sproul Hall, University of California, Berkeley, California 94720-5404

Unclaimed diplomas are retained for a period of five (5) years only, after which they are destroyed.

Questions can be addressed to the Diploma Office at 510-642-4814.
