Jane Gray Research Greenhouse now accepting requests for research space

The recently completed greenhouse, located across from the UC Botanical Garden, is an impressive state-of-the-art research space. The facility is climate controlled and can be monitored centrally or from a remote location. It is equipped with carbon water filtration, and each of its four, separate 600 square foot bays includes a "fertigation" system.

The greenhouse is currently accepting requests for research space. For more information visit the greenhouse webpage, or contact Crystal Ritchie, Sr. Nursery Technician, at (510) 643-4772.

Grad student Matthew Medeiros and postdoc Vance Vredenberg cited as "Everyday Heroes" in campus wide survey of undergraduates

The results of the 2005 UC Undergraduate Experience Survey include the names of any Cal affiliate (i.e. staff, faculty, researchers, grad students) who went "above and beyond" the call of duty. Among the names were two of IB's own: grad student Matthew Medeiros and postdoc researcher Vance Vredenberg. These heroes were lauded not just for their work in the classroom, but also for the little things - like making the effort to learn their students' names. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Tim Herrlinger for receiving Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award

Instructional Support manager and lecturer Tim Herrlinger was recently awarded the Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award, one of the highest honors bestowed upon staff by the Chancellor. Tim was nominated by fellow IB staff for his leadership, contributions to the department and campus community, and for consistently doing his job with high standards.

Other recipients of the award include Sonia Nosratinia of the University and Jepson Herbarium, and Pat Holroyd, staff scientist at the UC Museum of Paleontology. A number of IB faculty and students are affiliated with the herbarium and museum, and are familiar with the outstanding work done by Sonia and Pat.

Congratulations Tim, Sonia, and Pat!
