Postdoctoral fellow Cori Richards has accepted a faculty position at Tulane University! Cori will be departing for New Orleans in July (April 09)

 

Graduate student Matt Fujita was awarded an NSF Bioinformatics postdoc. Matt will quantify the influence that GC-content has on the efficacy of selection in amniotes, focusing on available and forthcoming reptile genomes (Anolis and Chrysemys). Matt will be working with Scott Edwards (Harvard University), Chris Ponting (Oxford), Brad Shaffer (UC Davis), and the Broad Institute (Cambridge) (April 09)

 

Graduate student Tom Devitt was awarded an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant to continue his work on Ensatina salamander phylogenetics and hybrid zone dynamics (April 09)

 

Graduate student Jon Fong was awarded an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant to continue his work on the phylogenetics of turtles using genomics tools (March 09)

 

Graduate student Matt Fujita was awarded an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Enhancement Program grant to support field and lab work in Australia associated with his ongoing studies of Heteronotia binoei geckos. (August 08)

 

Postdoctoral fellow Bryan Stuart has just accepted the Curator of Herpetology position in the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Bryan will continue his postdoc here through the end of August before assuming his new position in Raleigh. (May 08)

 

There is much good news for (now former) graduate student Adam Leaché. Adam (1) landed a choice job at the University of Washington, where he will be the Curator of Genetic Resources in the Burke Museum and Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. (2) Adam also was just awarded an NSF Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Dr. Bruce Rannala at UC Davis. Consequently, UW will have to wait a couple of years before Adam 2.0 assumes his faculty position. (3) Adam just graduated with his Ph.D. (May 08)

 

Graduate student Matt Brandley was awarded a highly coveted Gaylord Donnelley Environmental Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Dr. Tom Near at Yale University (April 08)

 

Graduate student Jon Fong was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to continue his work on the evolution and conservation genetics of endangered Chinese turtles. Jon departed for China in August. (April 08)

 

Graduate student Matt Fujita was awarded an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant to continue his work on Heteronotia binoei parthenogenetic and sexually reproducing lineages. (February 08)

 

Graduate student Shobi Lawalata was awarded an NSF Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant for her work on the biogeography and population genetics of Mentawai Islands Draco flying lizards (February 08)
