Research Title The evolution of mating systems in the context of sexually transmitted disease.
Research Keywords Animal Behavior, Mating Systems, Sexually Transmitted Disease, Peromyscus.
Location Colorado Desert. Riverside & San Diego County, California. Specific Localities (Deep Canyon Desert Research Center)
Study Species Peromyscus eremicus, californicus and maniculatus

I use molecular, behavioral, and demographic analyses to describe the role of disease in shaping mammalian mating systems. I am particularly interested in relating infection status to optimal mating behavior; reproductive success and skew. In addition, I will look at genetic variability across the monogamy-promiscuity continuum (especially at MHC loci). Aside from field biology and the analysis of collected materials, I am also interested in a more theoretical analysis of optimal mating behavior and plan to pursue this interest using mathematical modeling.

Current Activities

I am currently in the process of attempting to adapt microsatellite primers developed for P. maniculatus for use in P. eremicus.
