Research Title

MHC and Mating Systems: Is selection on MHC genes related to sexual behavior?

Research Locations

Colorado Desert. Monterey, Riverside & San Diego County, California.

Study Species

Peromyscus sp.

Matt

I am broadly interested in molecular and population genetic and behavioral ecology.

My research has led me to thinking about the way in which sexual behavior (i.e. mating systems) is related to exposure to pathogens and thus selection on MHC genes.

Current Activities
With Eileen Lacey, I am currently planning a RNA-seq experiment using next generation (Solexa) sequencing. The goal of this experiment is:

  1. Identify SNP's that will allow us to address issues of relatedness and paternity in Ctenomys sociabilis.
  2. Identify functional genes that underlie sociality.
