Information for prospective Ph.D. students
I am always interested in applications from prospective students with interests in plant ecology, evolutionary biology, and climate change. My main interest areas are native plants of California and ecology of tropical forests. Recent and current students have worked on evolution of hydraulics in chaparral shrubs, fire ecology and flammability, and community assembly in California woodlands and tropical forests. Projects combine field work, development of quantitative methods and/or theoretical modeling.
Prospective students are encouraged to contact me by email, preferably in September or October prior to the November/December application deadline. Please send a CV and a brief statement of your research experience and future interests. I like to meet applicants in person, so let me know if if you live close to the Bay Area or are visiting California. Applicants who are on the department's short list will also be invited for an interview weekend in February.

Information for prospective post-docs
At this time (June, 2008) I do not have any post-doc positions open in my lab. For those applying for independent fellowships, or interested in a Miller Post-doctoral Fellowship, please contact me about possibilities in my lab.
