Invitation for Biology 1B students to participate in survey

We are revising the Biology 1B Evolution labs. This is good news, and you can help.

We want to know about your experience and thoughts about the evolution labs, what you bring to them, and what you get from them.

We're conducting an online survey, once now before the labs and then again later this semester, and we encourage you to take 15 minutes to fill it out.

It's completely voluntary; you can stop at any time.

Because you're helping future students, if you complete the survey, you'll receive a free, extra credit bonus point toward your grade in the class.

You'll get a point for completing the first survey now, and you'll get a point if you complete the second survey later this semester.

To make it truly voluntary, we also offer an alternative way to get the bonus point. It involves reading an article about science lab practices and writing a summary of it.

You have to be at least 18 years old to do the survey; if you're less than 18 and want the point, you can do the alternative task.

Your responses will be completely confidential. We ask for your student ID to be able to give you your bonus point, but then we remove your ID and replace it with a randomly-generated ID. Once that's done, we have no way to connect any responses with any specific individual.

Your e-mail invitation should be sent out on Wednesday, January 23. It contains a link that will take you to the survey itself. It will be open until midnight on Friday, February 1. After it closes, you won't be able to get the extra credit. The time for you to do the survey is as soon as possible.

If you don't receive an invitation, or if you have any questions, please e-mail Lloyd Goldwasser (biologyevolutionlabs@gmail.com) or Tami Mau (tmau@berkeley.edu).

Thank you!
