VLSB Classroom Safety

• No smoking, eating, or drinking in labs or classrooms
• No bicycles, pets, or skating

Evacuation

• When alarm sounds, evacuate immediately by nearest exit
• Take personal belongings
• Do not use elevators when evacuating
• Assemble where instructor or GSI directs you
• Do not re-eneter building until all clear is given

Earthquake

• Stop, drop and cover
• Shelter under tables, away from shelving, windows, or other overhead objects
• Follow evacuation procedures after shaking stops

Fire

• If alarm sounds evacuate immediately
• Call 9-911 to report a fire
• If alarm does not sound:
  • Exit and activate alarm at pull station
  • Close door when last person is evacuated
  • Follow evacuation procedures above
  • Notify authorities of location, size and nature of fire

Fighting Small Fires

• If possible, use the lab extinguisher to fight small fires
  • Pull pin, aim, squeeze lever and sweep at base of flames
• Stay between fire and exit at all times
• Evacuate if in danger and call 9-911
• After extinguishing, report fire to building safety at 3-9998
• Fire prevention 3-8576

Bomb Threat

• Evacuate building if instructed
• Take personal belongings
• Do not touch suspicious items
• Use stairs only
• Report unusual objects to authorities
