How to Receive a Gift or Payment
When a faculty member receives a gift or a reimbursement for costs incurred from an organization outside the University, email to Steve Owen (swowen@berkeley.edu) or use this form to submit:
- Donor name or source of funds
- Reason for payment (intended purpose in the case of a gift)
- Fund to which the money should be deposited (or request for a new gift fund)
- Approximate date that payment is expected to arrive.
For organizations sending a check, please ask that it be made out to "U.C. Regents" and send to:

- If the check is a gift to support research, the donor should also send a letter indicating that the funds are a gift "to support the research of Professor X…"
- Checks received directly by faculty should be forwarded (along with the information above) to Steve Owen in IB for deposit and processing.
- IB staff will notify the faculty member when a check is received and will send a copy of the deposit receipt and gift form (if applicable).
- Check your monthly accounting statements to verify that the money has been credited.
- If a new fund is needed for a gift, it can take over a month for the fund to be set up and the money available.
