Ensatina eschscholtzii klauberi (Large-blotched Ensatina)
Beginning with the work of Dr. Robert C. Stebbins (professor emeritus) in the 1940\'s, the plethodontid salamander Ensatina eschscholtzii has been studied by researchers in the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and Department of Integrative Biology for nearly 60 years, and has since been featured prominently as a textbook example of geographic variation and speciation. Pictured is an adult male Ensatina eschscholtzii klauberi (Large-blotched Ensatina) from San Diego County, California.
